The Engine

Hot air balloons generate lift and achieve buoyancy through the use of trapped hot air. The hot air within the balloon has a lower density than the atmosphere, allowing the balloon to float. The hot air within the balloon comes from a burner engine, usually powered by propane, like a gas grill. This engine has a clockwork pump in place of a propane tank, an altimeter, and two releases for heat control. It is suspended in the balloon by chains and carabiners.
